Discover the music behind The Tears of Nerakhis
The heart of "The Tears of Nerakhis" is in its music. We realized very early on that, in order to do justice to the mythical scope of the story, we had to tell it through music, and that a musical was the right choice to bring it to life on the stage. Our talented team of composers has been working on the music since 2024 to produce a score worthy of the epic, romantic and mythical world of Nerakhis.
21 MUSICAL NUMBERS
With a total of 33 songs and 21 musical numbers, our musical stands out because it is fully sung-through. The only part not sung are Calanthe’s monologues as she writes, a reference to the original story in the book, which is written by Calanthe herself. The musical is then full of all kinds of numbers, epic ensembles, Tangos, romantic ballads, Cuban Sons and classical pieces, blending seamlessly to tell the epic story of The Tears of Nerakhis. These are the names of the 21 main songs (in theonic):

CALANTHE
The protagonist, author and narrator of The Tears of Nerakhis.
Calanthe holds the weight of the musical on her shoulders. As the lead of 10 out of the 21 musical numbers of the musical, she is the cornerstone of the entire production. In the book, she is the narrator and is thus present in all scenes of the story, so the same had to happen in the musical! Calanthe ends up being present in virtually the whole performance. Some of her lead songs include Calanthe of many flowers, A thousand faces and Wolf of Ice, although she is also the lead singer in duets such as Diamonds of Ice, in their love song with Alea, or against Nerakhis in Teosáuron. In this video, watch our Calanthe MAEVE MURRAY portray her in the iconic Calanthe of many flowers.
ALEA
The princess of nature and daughter of Nerakhis.
Innocent, happy, pure and beautiful, Alea represents everything that Calanthe wishes to be, the perfection of the natural world, and that is exemplified through her music. In the book, her songs are beautiful but wordless, as she has learned to sing by imitating the birds. This feature is still present in her main theme, the theme of Alea, featured most prominently in Alea of snow hair but also in musical numbers such as Teosáuron or The Desert nymphs.
The team that made it happen.
Driven by a love for music and for the story, our talented composers poured their heart and soul into each and every song of this epic. Get a peek into the composition process in this Behind-the-scenes video.
