When a young girl falls in love with the daughter of the God of Night, an epic love story ensues, full of gods, twists, and a sweeping score. The Tears of Nerakhis is an original, fully sung-through fantasy musical that has amassed a global online following, created over two years by a company of more than a hundred student artists. As one of the largest entirely student-produced original musicals at this year's Fringe, The Tears of Nerakhis shows what combining myth, fantasy and music can achieve.

At the heart of the musical is the romance of Calanthe, a human poet, and Alea, daughter of Nerakhis, in a tragic myth told across 21 original songs. The Tears of Nerakhis deliberately places a queer love story at the centre of a fantasy epic and shapes its worldbuilding with a carefully crafted visual identity. The story began as a novel by writer-director Albert Suriñach i Campos, published in Spain, that has been adapted over two years into a full sung-through musical.

Everything the audience sees and hears, from the score and libretto to the show's signature hand-painted artwork, costume design and music, has been created from scratch by Albert, Rafel and the student community of the University of St Andrews.
